Position We are actively assembling our founding board. We are looking for people who are excited about bringing personalized, competency-based education to Las Vegas. If you recognize that the "factory model" of school is inherently flawed, and want to help us successfully launch a better system, please reach out!

Our board We are seeking thoughtful, innovative, and experienced individuals who want to help us prove that student-centered, competency-based education can work brilliantly in Southern Nevada. We believe all students can succeed when given clear learning goals, personalized pathways, and authentic opportunities to demonstrate mastery. Our board members share a passion for student-centered, competency-based education and are eager to help us have a strong start.
Meetings The precise schedule of our board meetings is yet to be determined, but we expect to meet monthly via video call with occasional in-person sessions in the Las Vegas area for strategic planning and community engagement events.
Responsibilities Board members serve as stewards of Nexus High School's mission, providing governance, oversight, and strategic direction. Responsibilities include:
  • Attending and actively participating in monthly board meetings
  • Serving on at least one committee (e.g., Finance, Academic Excellence, Development, Governance)
  • Reviewing and approving key policies, budgets, and charter compliance documents
  • Supporting fundraising efforts and cultivating relationships with community partners
  • Acting as ambassadors for the school in the community
  • Participating in the annual evaluation of the school leader
Giving Nexus High School follows a “give or get” policy: each board member is encouraged to make an annual personal contribution that is meaningful to them and to assist in securing additional resources through fundraising and/or networking. While no set dollar amount is required, we strive for 100% board participation in giving.
Development New board members participate in onboarding sessions to become familiar with our mission, vision, plans, and policies.
